Storyrunner was founded by journalist and director Stijn van Baarle. Stijn who is now 48, studied history and economics. He always had a passion for television en started his career in 1999 at the Belgian Business Television Kanaal Z. As a tv-journalist Stijn had to translate complex info to a wide audience. This is still the essence of Storyrunner.  

In 2012 Stijn started his own production company Storyrunner. The focus was mainly on documentary filmmaking. Together with the well-known Belgian biologist Dirk Draulans we have made many documentaries for Belgian national TV (Canvas). Nowadays, Storyrunner also makes shorter videos, but we remain true to our principles and focus. The cool animations and infographics are the icing on the cake. 

Storyrunner won a few awards.  We won the Award for Best Green & Environment film at the Brussels Capital Film Festival for the documentary "Made in Europe" (2023). The Belgian Federal Council for Sustainable Development selected our productions “Alles kan schoner” (2014) and “Duurzaam duurt het langst” (2016) for the prestigious FRDO Press Award for sustainable development. The European research project video "Demeter ETN" won the Marie Curie Award for best outreach and the EU4FACTS Award.

Every Sunday you can watch and hear Stijn also at the VRT NWS and Sportweekend, another passion of him. But he keeps Storyrunner small on purpose. So, we can keep our high standards, stay flexible and competitively priced, while working with the best screenwriters, directors, graphic designers, editors and cameramen.
